Cask, GBBF. Very light color, like a pilsener. Big head. Aroma has hops and grapefruit. Hoppy citric flavor with vanilla. Medium bodied. Fairly long hopbitter finish. Fine and well balanced ale. Bottle. Sweet apples and a hint of toffee in the aroma. Cidery yeat hopbitter, somewhat dusty and earthy flavor. Earthy bitter aftertaste with some apple. (6 3 6 3 13) From cask this beer is much better as bottle-conditioned.

Cask @ Old Sun, Harlington. Yellow gold. Sunshine. Faint aroma of bitter citrus hops. Taste is on the money: complex malt and hop flavours. Moreish bitter finish. A good beer that benefits from decent cellarmanship.

On 8th Oct 2011 I wrote: Now I am starting to review cask beers more often I’m finding I’ve already reviewed the bottled version on here, this is again the case. This hand pulled pint was poured into a UK sleeve in a local pub that often has Oakham’s ales on. The beer was a pale gold, like almost all Oakham beers and like the bottle it had a slight haze in the body. The head being pure white with smallish bubbles. The head left a little lacing as I attacked the beer. The smell was citrusy, obviously from the hops, in the taste more bittering hoppiness came through. The bodyfeel was lightish and yet it seemed to hold hidden fruits within it. Never been a huge fan of this breweries beers, their yeast culture seems to dominate the flavours; without killing any other flavours admittedly, but always there somehow. My scores marry against my bottled review, very rare!

Half on cask served too chilled. Missing head, but nice mahogany body. Nose is dominated by malt. Flavour: Sweet caramelisation combined with citric notes. Standard goden ale (Trafford Arms and another haft at the Freemasons Arma in Norwich 24.09.2006).
