From Beer Drop, canned July 16th 2025.
Pours black, 2 finger head of foam(vigorous pour), retention is excellent, lacing is good.
Roasted malt and chocolate aromas, with some coffee.
Taste is roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, quite on the more bitter side. Bitterness comes from hops, coffee and chocolate. Pretty intense.
Medium bodied with a good level of carbonation, I would drink this again.

Can from Beer Karma, New York. Aroma is roasted malt with coffee, piney hops, fruity notes, touch of citrus, some liquorice and caramel. Above moderate sweet and bitter with a medium body. Starts out roasty/coffee followed by the piney hoppy half of the coin as you drink more of it. Nice.

Allagash is practically impossible to find near me, this 12 oz can came from the inventory at Half Time. A dark Belgian ale and Allagash Brewing, sounds promising. I have a snifter in front of me and the can is opened, now pouring. Dark mahogany brown as it should be finished by a head of creamy khaki tan foam provided by a strong carbonation. I smell grain, is there barley in that, and also hops, not much else coming through. The drink is somewhat different for a Belgian dark ale but I can go with it. Malt, barley, a bare hint of plums, coffee and a hoppy bitterness. This one tilts way more towards the grains than it does the dark fruit.

So to start I just want to say I disagree with the brown IPA/cascadian dark label but only a little. To me this is one of my favorite beer styles, and this really drinks like a dark ESB with a little extra hop, and I love it. I recall 25 years ago, american craft brewers were all making beers like this, whether brown or red, and I loved it. So I'm ecstatic about this beer. Dull brown color, modest head. Nose is mildly hoppy, very bready, nutty. Flavor has a nice herbal, grassy hop, maybe a hint of citrus, and more of that nutty bready malt character. Super well balanced between the sweet malts and bittering hops to finish. Finishes balanced to semi-dry. I could drink these all night.
