Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Greg & Jane's Beer and Wine. Appearance is dark brown--almost opaque--with decent sparkle at the edge of the glass, thin, beige head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is chocolate and roasted malt. Taste is as aroma with late earth. Palate is medium-to-full bodied with thick texture, soft-to-average carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, not complex but pretty strong aroma and flavor and a nice palate. Better than I was expecting based on other reviews.

Tap at the brewery. pours mildly clear, black, no real head. Smell is crisp, dark malts, still a bit ’light’. Taste is bit bitter, roasty, semi-creamy, almost a bit lactic in it’s mild sweetness. Nice

From tap. Pours hazy dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malty. Breadish and roasted. Dry, roasted, slight herbal. Mild bitter and dark roasted finish.

Pours a solid dark brown color with a decent sized tan head that shows some persistence. Smells roasty and fruity with bits of earth and caramel strewn about. Taste follows the smell fairly well, but there is more caramel than coffee and roast. Dark dried fruits and caramels are quite prevalent almost dopplebock like qualities. Medium to thick body with a moderate level of carbonation and a slick sweet burnt sugary mouthfeel. This is not a bad beer, but it really needs some more roast and some chocolate flavor would help as well.

12 oz bottle. Pours a deep brown with small tan head. Very nice lacing in my pint glass. Looks much like other ordinary stouts. Palate is a bit thin for a stout with low carbonation. Nose is malt, barley and chocolate. Flavor is mostly roasted malt with a hint of bitter chocolate. Let this warm to near room temperature for best flavor. Over all very standard. But still drinkable and clean.

Pours mahogany-tinged black into an English pint. Tan head with very good retention leaves slow sheets as it recedes. Roasted caramel and chocolate aromas. Creamy and full with upfront chocolate turning dry in the lasting finish.

12 oz bottle courtesy of mcox90. Pour is deep brown with ruby highlights and a 1/2 tan head. Aroma of softly roasted malt, some milkiness. Clean nose, just a bit faint. Taste is the coffee roast and gentle soft lactic milkiness. Smooth palate is medium, with a long roasty finish. Nice one, thanks Michael.

Bottle: Dark brown, near black pour with a small, thin brown head. Light roast and coffee filled aroma with a subtle, sweet molasses note. Taste is a smooth coffee based stout with sweet molasses and chocolate. Light roastiness and some faint bitters in the tail. Thanks to mcox90 for this bottle in trade.

As usual for this brewery, the head foams up to a great height (I believe their beers are (or at least were) krausen conditioned) before falling to cover and leaving light lacing. Black body shows fairly low clarity and seems impenetrable.
About as much of a straight up, American stout as I can think of. Roasty and lightly chewy, with plentiful dryness, strong attenuation and the typical notes of vanilla and coffee. This one has a nice chocolate chip cookie-dipped-in-coffee sort of chewy-sweetness that hangs on the end of each sip and is cleansed at the beginning of each sip by the strong roasted dryness. Very carbonated, too much so initially, thinning out the already lacking sweetness and defining some nutty, bitter malt notes. But it softens eventually. Light vanilla lingers on pleasantly. No flaws, no alcohol noted.
