Sierra Nevada Torpedo Ale is a big American IPA; bold, assertive and full of flavor and aromas highlighting the complex citrus, pine and herbal character of whole-cone American hops. Our obsession with harnessing huge hop flavor led to the development of what we call the hop torpedo, a revolutionary method of dry-hopping designed, built, and debuted here at the brewery. Our torpedo is a sleek, stainless-steel piece of hardware that delivers more pure hop aroma than any method of dry-hopping we’ve ever seen.

Tap at brewdog barcelona. Pours rather unclear amber. Small white head, with a nice lacing. Smell is green, herbal, almost pepery by the hops. Taste is full, piny to the max, bitter, full malted backbone ( caramel maltyness ) finiahes a bit soapy. Not sure if the glasses or the beer is to blame ? Probably will get a re-rate in the future

Bottle from Beer Hawk. This beer is absolutely seduction in a glass. Dark golden colour. The smell is nice, hoppy. The taste is strong and deep, very fulfilling. Pine, old hops, creamy malts. I’m not enamoured but decent indeed. Nb: one month out of date (alcohol coming through quote bluntly and carbonation a little strong).

Bottle. Light amber colour, murky. Aroma: nice American hops, light biscuit malts. Medium body. The taste is hoppy, pretty fruity. Additional pine, citrus. Medium to heavy bitterness. Tasty and easy-going

0,355 l botttle. Unclear bright orange with a nearly two finger head in the glass. Hopy tropical fruity and resin on the nose. Taste starts with a hopy shot, some tropical fruits, honey and malt and sweetness in the second row. Pleasant bitterness but no hop hammer. Really decent stuff.

Bottle pour into shaker pint glass from Market Basket. Appearance is hazy orange with minimal sparkle, thin cap of off-white head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is light pine, malts, earthy resin. Taste is citrus, milder grapefruit and pine, over malt backbone, late hop bitterness. Palate is medium bodied with thick texture, average carbonation and dry, mildly bitter finish. Overall, malts are more apparent in aroma and taste than I would have expected from the name and the hoopla around the Torpedo. It’s not that the malts are that assertive but the hops are not bold. Toward the tail end of the hop freshness window, so maybe that accounts for it.

2016 catch up - Bottle at home - A nice strong IPA that was good alongside food. The hops were strong and the alcohol meant that this was verging on a double IPA. One that I would happily drink again, but it does lack subtlety.
