Sierra Nevada Torpedo Ale is a big American IPA; bold, assertive and full of flavor and aromas highlighting the complex citrus, pine and herbal character of whole-cone American hops. Our obsession with harnessing huge hop flavor led to the development of what we call the hop torpedo, a revolutionary method of dry-hopping designed, built, and debuted here at the brewery. Our torpedo is a sleek, stainless-steel piece of hardware that delivers more pure hop aroma than any method of dry-hopping we’ve ever seen.

0.355l bottle. Hopy and malty aroma, citruses, resin. Hazy amber color, white head. Hopy taste, light malty notes, grapefruit, pine, light sweet notes, medium to high bitter. Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation and hopy bitter finish. Good.

Can. Pours clear golden. Aroma is grassy and flora hops, yet hinting at a massive malt dose to come up. Body is medium, rather on the bitter side, some sweetness, and with a rather soft carbonation. Good balance though. Matching palate, yet rather short. Nice.

From the tap at Beer Temple, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Pours clear amber (but place is very dark) with abundant white foam. Aroma is citrus and a little resinous. Body is medium, low carbonation. Taste is definitely bitter, but without exceeding. Finish is not particularly long for a beer like this.

355 ml. bottle from an Albert Heijn supermarket. BBF 082516 (date was very hard to find & very hard to read). Seems to have been bottled in April 2016 but code is hard to read. So I bought this only to find out that it is about probably about 7 months old. This is a beer that just now appeared in a supermarket chain, total rip-off. Clear dark amber, off-white head. Nose is mildly grainy sweetish orange peel & mellow pine resin hops, orange peel, mango peel, caramel with malts, very mellow for a USA DIPA (que age). Taste is mellow orange peel, prominent medium mellow pine resin, marmalade, low dark bread, mango peel, caramel, malty, oily. Body has clear malt, marmalade, hop oil. Still pretty good, held up really solidly (it is too mellow whilst still tasting very pleasantly), fresh it must be awesome. Age is a real shame here because it is a massive USA brewery importing through a major supermarket chain. For some Belgians this will be their first encounter with Sierra Nevada.
