Jack Hammer has been single handedly ripping it up for quite some time. Now this IPA, has spawned four hammer head off-springs. Rye Hammer is the fourth of our super-charged hyped up hybrids.
A grapefruit harvest of citrus melts away to sticky roasted caramel and rye warmth, all resting on a malted biscuit backbone. Then ‘The Hammerhead’s trademark bitter finish reasserts its authority.

Can. Mitchell’s Wines, Sheffield. Pretty hazy, pale gold. Thin, frothy, lasting, white head. Nose has bitter orange. Candied peel. Spicy rye. Some fruity toffee. Taste is light, spicy bitter. Gets a little earthy and dry. Nice mouthfeel. Soft and foamy. Bitterness gets full on toward the finish, with a dry, spicy close. Bit dry, but very decent.

Keg at Brewdog Shepherds Bush, London. A hazy straw coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Hoppy, grapefruit, rye aroma. Tastes hoppy, citrus, grapefruit, rye.

Can from Gonzo, Coventry, Golden colour with a thin white head. Aroma had malty grain and light citrus. taste medium o light bitter. Nice

Pure white rocky head stayed on a hazy brilliant golden body. Full on citrus, grapefruit & apricot aroma. Medium body feel, feels soft on the palate & airy. Subtle sweet citrus to the fore followed by a huge blast of bitter grapefruit, pith & a long bitter aft.

Can. Light haze on this gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth malts, clean and lightly sweet. Hops bring good orange peel and a little fresh orange, Mild pine and decent hop spic. Light semi dry finish. Good beer but I was expecting more from BrewDog.

Can at home, 23/12/16. Golden orange with a decent off White head. Nose is pine resin, dank hop strokes, grapefruit, orange wine gums, toasted malts. Taste comprises orange pith, mango flesh, pine, critic tinged straw, grapefruit.Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close peppered with semi aggressive dank hop bitterness. Solid IPA.

Keg at Brewdog Clerkenwell. A mostly clear golden orange coloured pour with a lasting sticky white head. Aroma is big citrus fruits, grapefruit skin, burnt citrus, petrol little dank hop. Palate is medium light, bug sticky hop, moderate carbonation. Flavour is composed of big aggressive hop bitterness, grapefruit and pine lingering on the back of the throat. An out of balance ale. I haven’t had Jack hammer in a while but this is definitely similar.

Can from Cork & Cask. Golden body with a light haze and a thin white head. Low carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of blood orange, grass and grapefruit. Flavour of bitter hops, grapefruit pith and stainless steel. Thin body with an oily texture. Light fizz. Mega bitter, with not much evidence of the rye.

Keg at BD CJ. It pours lightly hazy pale gold with a thick, foamy white head. The aroma is fresh, bright grapefruit character, cracker, spice, straw, pine needles and bread. The taste is crisp, dry, crazy bitter, loads of grapefruit, zesty lemon action, touch of soap, spicy, cracker, biscuit, straw, grass and pine needles with a linger dry, spicy finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Rather nice. One of the better beers in the hammer series.

Keg at brewdog Edinburgh. Pours pale golden, nose is herbal, toffee, musty, grapefruit, taste is bitter, juicy citrus, some peppery notes.
