Bottle. Pours dark brown with a light beige head. Bourbon, oak, sweet malts, caramel. Honestly, pretty standard for a barrel-aged beer and pretty disappointing. Just too much barrel which hides the underlying beer.

Sample from a bottle at the Denver Winter Brew Fest. Pours a clear, dark brown color, with a small, fizzy, tan head. The aroma is sawdust, strong barrel notes of vanilla and toasted oak, maple, and bitter almonds. Sweet and boozy, with no real balance. Heavy body, with a hot, harsh mouthfeel. This is too hot, and not nuanced enough.

Bottle at WTF 4. Pours a cloudy brown with with small beige head. The aroma is dark fruit, rye, bourbon, wood. Medium body, rye, raisin, vanilla, nice boozy finish, very good.

Sample at Denver Rare Beer Tasting VII on 09/25/2015. Dark reddish-brown color with a medium thin light beige head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of bourbon, rye and malt. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, rye malt and fruit. The finish is oaky with a mildly spicy rye aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Tap @ Black Bottle. Pours a reddish brown appearance with a thin tan head. Wine, dark chocolate, caramel, fig, plum, tangy aroma. A bit tart, creamy, burnt sugar, boozy, light corny, chocolate flavor. Weird. Not my thing.
