Fairly average as an ale, but on the other hand has no bad characteristics. Malt based flavours.

In cask form this beer is 4.4% and I have drank it at various festivals over the years. This review is of two pints drank in the Weatherspoon’s ’Jewel of the Severn’ in Bridgnorth, Shropshire on the 5th April 2007.. Mid copper colour with a good off white head, this beer suits a pint glass, which is what I drank it out of. Malts and a wiff of citrus and a floral aroma from both pints. Creamy texture and taste, with a bitterness that gives the beer a little bit of tartness. The flavours stay and the creaminess helps to ensure the beer sticks around in thethroat. Very drinkable beer, try it if you see it on cask.

21st Aug 2010, I wrote this: Sadly the brewery is now closed and up for sale, so this review of a 500ml brown bottle will most likely be the last one for this beer. The 4.4%ABV bottle had a before use date of Aug 2010, so it is three weeks out of date today: poured into my newish ’Abbot Ale’ glass tankard. It is a horrible day outside and I’m dog sitting, this is a ’live’ review! Frankie, the black Labrador Retriever doesn’t say much, but looks interested as I pour the beer, not that he is getting any. Lovely amber, copper coloured body, good white foaming crown on top, the beer looks clear and inviting. The nose is mostly malts, some citrus notes like the cask version, but not as fruity. The taste is creamy and malty, with a good hop bitterness blended within it. Very easy to drink and I’ll miss this breweries beers. I still have a couple of others to review though, so although the brewery has gone I’ll remember their beers for a bit longer yet!

cask at standing order ... copper ... light zezty lemon nose... soft toffee fruits ... hint of lemon

Cask-conditioned at the Knights Templar (JDW), Bristol 5/04/2011. Amber with a slight, off-white head. Sweetish cereal malts with a touch of berry fruit and moderately bitter finish. Ok.

500ml bottle. Pours amber with a small head. Aroma is sweet and malty with a hint of hops. No real hops on the tastle, just sweet, sickly malt. The bitter finish is quite nice though.

50cl bottle, CM-Vantaa. Pours Hazy light amber with a small head. Aroma is weak of apple and sweet. Very light bodied, but not watery. Flavour is fruity with apple and lightly hopped. Too light, but enjoyed with chicken, this was OK.

Cask at the White Swan (JDW), Solihull. Gold with a dense cream head; sour grain aroma; red fruit flavour; dry finish. A simple but tasty bitter.

[handpull at Hope Tap, Reading] 4.4% ABV when I had it too - which correlates with brewers website. Chestnut colour with a thin, lasting, soap-sud like head. Initially bitter, then treacle, earth, autumn leaves and some honey. Aftertaste bittersweet with some earth & treacle; very sticky mouthfeel. Tastes stronger than ABV would suggest. An enjoyable pint, but stickiness would mean you wouldn’t want too much.
