Sampled at Ace&Kees festival. 2014 vintage. Almost clear dark amber with bubbly beige head. Huge caramel, vanilla, bourbon, spicy notes, sugary malts, alcohol, soft bread crust, sugar loaf. Quite sweet, solid medium bitter. Full bodied with boozy finish.

Interesting combination. Smooth old ale, malty, with dried fruit, raisins, a bit boozy and warming. Also a pretty sharp and sweet whiskey. Honey, wood and some caramel. Both are pretty sweet together, but not too much. Sharp barrel is compensated by base.

Gott!

2015 bottle. Bought off a shelf, so self aged. Dark ruby brown. Head is big at first but does to nothing. Beer definitely is aged but if I were to age a decently available barleywine this is the one. It's a nice cardboard and aged malts. The barrel isn't really strong and neither is the higher abv. Not astringent, not thin, some fruit but not overly fruity. Gelatin look with the last pour. It tastes like an aged barleywine should taste.
