This brawny, tawny ale is a savory celebration of spicy rye malt and rye whiskey, compliments of extended aging in freshly-emptied rye barrels. Rye on Rye pours a deep amber and evokes notes of charred oak and vanilla, with a finish this delightfully boozy and sweet!

Amber colour, off-white head. Aroma of bread, whisky, alcohol, quite sweet, notes of wood and vanilla. Quite alcoholic flavour, whiskey, sweet malts and bread. Finish rye bread.
Quite nice, though not as -by lack of a better word- big as I expected.

750 ml corked and caged bottle, 2012 bottle, one year old. Pours murky orangeish-brown with a medium beige lacy head with decent retention. Aroma is pretty exotic; it smells spicy (I guess that’s the rye), clove, caramel. Taste is sweet and savory and ends on a sour note. Whiskey comes through fairly strong, as well as the oak. Leaves an alcohol burn in the back of the throat. Spicy. Bubbly mouthfeel. Tasty. I’m lucky I got the last bottle at Enoteca!

Hazy reddish - brown beer. Big cream coloured head. Soft palate. Milky sweet nose with a little wood. Sourish cream with a little wood and vanilla. Mild whisky. Slight bitterness in the finish. A nice beer but it’s more Rye sour than Rye spice.

750 ml. Hazy light amber with orange highlights. Off-white head. Aroma of rye whiskey and toasted grain. Hints of caramel, vanilla and wood. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Plenty of alcohol in the finish. Medium to full body, velvety texture, moderate carbonation. Rye whiskey is the dominant taste and, along with the alcohol, mutes the wood, caramel and vanilla flavors. Pleasant enough and as a whiskey sipper, this works fine, but it’s bit too much rye (whiskey) on the rye for me.
