This brawny, tawny ale is a savory celebration of spicy rye malt and rye whiskey, compliments of extended aging in freshly-emptied rye barrels. Rye on Rye pours a deep amber and evokes notes of charred oak and vanilla, with a finish this delightfully boozy and sweet!

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy maroon with a small white head. Aroma of caramel, dried fruits, rye bread and whiskey - lots of depth. Flavour brings out lots of figs and dates, rye whiskey barrels, rye bread and rich caramel -some slight spices in there too, ABV is completely hidden. Very deep and full-bodied, sort of like a rye-induced scotch ale. Very expertly made.

Location: 750 ml bottle from Colonial Wine and Spirits, 4/23/12, Batch 2012-2
Aroma: The nose is boozy and sweet: oak, caramel, rye, whiskey, fruit, and some light bread
Appearance: It pours a clear reddish-copper with a thick foam of beige head and mid-heavy lace
Flavor: Tastes mid-sweet from the malts and fruity notes, with a big whiskey flavor, and minimal bitterness
Palate: This one is full bodied, with some stickiness and creaminess on the mouth, and medium-plus heat
Overall Impression: This one turned out to be a pretty interesting beer. There is a lot of whiskey flavor here, and a good amount of heat as well. While I thought it worked pretty well, I'd be curious to see how this one ages.
