Built from the backbone of Stone's classic Imperial Russian Stout, Stone Totalitarian Imperial Russian Stout certainly celebrates the hallmarks of the style - it pours jet-black with a fluffy chocolate head and tastes of deeply dark fruit flavors with rich chocolate and coffee overtones. Yet, however old world in nature, this particular rendition of an IRS is flavored with new world hops, intensifying its berry flavors and aroma while subtly introducing a juicy melon undertone. The result is a spectacularly sinful delight. Don't say we didn't warn you, comrade.

Stone Imperial Russian Stout has been a much anticipated special release over the years. In 2017, we took a year off from releasing this amazing beer, causing some to worry that this was the end of an era. But in 2018, this deep, dark stout returns as big as ever and with a few upgrades. We added flaked oats for a smooth mouth feel and Belma hops, which round out the dark fruit component, providing an ever so slight hop edge.

Draft pour at Spacebar. Poured a nearly pitch black color with a nice, small brown head. Aroma was roasted malts, dark chocolate, mild chocolate, with some light dried fruits and a little touch of dusty dark chocolate. Flavor was rich, roasted, a little mocha here. Alcohol really really well hidden. Expected this to be just another RIS clone, and don't get me wrong, I love RIS, but it's nice to have something so very different but so very good. Delicious.

Tap at Cap Tap. Pours dark brown with a dark tan head. Dark roasty malt aroma with some chocolate. Med + body. Flavor is coffee/chocolate and dark roasty malt. Not dry; bitter - could be from coffee. Sort of a smooth/soothing IS. Nice flavor; very approachable.

12 oz. bottle, pours jet back with a small brown head. Nose is deeply roasted, with heavy roasted malt, healthy amount of hopping as well, with a hint of coffee. Flavour follows exaclty, with a big roasted malt base, followed by a robust hopping, and light coffee bitterness. Robust and surprisingly easy to drink for the ABV. An excellent by-the-books American impie stout.
