On tap at the brewery. Pours a very dark brown with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is strong vanilla bean, roast, wood. Thin mouth, strong bourbon, roast, bitter chocolate, spice finish, very nice.

[2/24/15] Draught at Cascade Brewing Barrel House in Portland. Dark brown to black with a beige head. Big vanilla aroma with some chocolate, balsamic vinegar and dark fruits. Sour-sweet flavor with lots of vanilla, some chocolate, cherries, balsamic vinegar, oak and an alcoholic note. Medium-bodied. Good, but I prefer other Cascade beers – a bit too much vanilla for me.

On tap at Cascade, pours a dark amber brown with a medium beige bubbly head. Aroma brings out cocoa, subdued sourness, and a little oak. Flavour brings out a great mix of cocoa and complex barrel notes, the latter of which consist of bourbon, wine, sour red fruits, and some sweetness. Very complex. The chocolate is very well-integrated. Delicious stuff.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a jet black color with a medium light brown head. A sour fruity nose, cherries, cocoa. The flavor is big barrels, sour, but the roast and big stout flavors dominate. The base comes in as super fruity though, mostly tart cherries or currants. The chocolate is there, but subdued.

Tap at Cascade Barrel House, PDX, 22/05/13. Light black with a thin tan head. Nose is sour berry fruits, chocolate balsam, wood, cocoa, dark fruits steeped in bourbon. Taste mimics the nose with a little more depth, chocolate balsamics covering a bourbon drenched dark fruit cornucopia, damp wood, dry rot, earthy and barnyard. Full bodied, fine carbonation, puckering’o’clock come the curtain call. A big big sour - probably the biggest to come my way. I wasn’t sure at first but they pulled this one off !

Sample at the Barrel House. Opaque brownish-black color with a thin beige head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, cherries and oak. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, black cherry, chocolate and vanilla. The finish is boozy with a lingering chocolate liqueur aftertaste and a touch of tart fruit. Very good all around.
