American Pale Ale with Calypso and Mosaic hops. Made by Doug Pominville.
Our Grunion Pale Ale wasn’t born on a beach, but in a backyard. Originating from an employee-only home brew contest, this award-winning hoppy pale ale is named after the tiny local fish known for late night frolics on shore. A pair of new hop varieties lend strong yet balanced summer melon aromas and herbal flavors, while a soft caramel malt sweetness holds it all together.

28th May 2016: draft 16oz pour in The Lot, a trendy, hipster cinema/restaurant and bar/café in La Jolla, California. Clear orange/amber with a full white head. Tropical fruit aroma and taste with a citrus feel, good malt base in the taste, but hops dominated throughout. Decent.

Bottle (from Beergium). Pours amber with whiteish head. The head stays. Aroma is hoppy, Mosaic hops, citrus, malt. Flavor is sweet and bitter, citrus, caramel, grapefruit, pine. Body is watery. Overall: good.8:4:7:3:14=3.6 (rated 26.05.2016) Rerate. Have they changed the recipe? this beer is basically now just drinkable.

Tap at Bud. Malty, honey nose with orange and peach. Hoppy, malty flavor, sweet and a bit cloying with lots of honey malts and then cat piss and big bitterness. Not my thing.

Mums!

On tap at St. Augustine's, pours a clear golden copper with a small white head. Aroma is full of tropical fruits, including mango, guava and pineapple. Flavour is along the same lines, with loads of the aforementioned tropical fruits upfront, followed by lots of piney dry hopping and a bone dry biscuity malt backbone. Wonderfully constructed, with so much depth, yet it still comes across like a pale and not an IPA. Excellent.

Burk, privatimport craftbeer. Gyllengul med lågt men krämigt skum. Stor fin fruktig humledoft.

Cereal aroma. Amber, clear, appearance. Very bitter taste. Full body, thick feel, and a bitter finish. Terribly on style.

Man, this is a really tasty beer. Got the hops dialed right in. Very fresh tasting. Nicely balanced with the malt and other ingredients too. Super drinkable.

12 oz. bottle that has a Julian calendar code on it. Hazy gold, slow steady carbonation. Aroma has mild grass, hints of dankness. And a strange floral note, looked at the deScription, yep... Calypso hops.
All truth told Calypso is a variety of hops I have not been impressed with. 2015 seemed to be the year of Mosaic hop (which I enjoy most of the time) but this odd floral note I get from Calypso just hits me wrong. The citrus is decent. The body is medium and it does have a crisp aftertaste. Perhaps if I ever see it on draft I will give it another chance.
