On tap at the Armadillo Den, Austin. Black with beige head. Nice roasty chocolate, wood, cocoa, some alcohol coming through. Nice bitter finish, not too sweet. Medium to full bodied.

A barrel aged imperial stout from Martin House. All positives so far. I am taking a cooled 12 oz can out of the two-pack and tilting into my Cowtown tulip glass. A totally black liquid with a frothy top of dark tan foam. The nose is top level for the style, dark chocolate, grain and booze. And the drink improves on that. Baking chocolate, whole grain bread, a whiskey taste and burn, oak, a bit of caramel and just a hint of berries. Another fine imperial stout from Martin House, how many have I tried now?

On tap at The Hay Merchant. Pours black with medium tan head that lasts. The aroma is roast, chocolate, wood, wet biscuit. Medium mouth, rich malt, roast, dark chocolate, wood, lingering dryness, very good.
