Lazarus is the biggest, most complex beer we've ever produced. It began life as an American Barleywine, and was then aged with Brettanomyces in Downslope Distilling barrels for 13 months. The result is a soft, complex, toasty and slightly chocolatey delight, with just a hint of alcohol warmth.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark brown with small beige head. The aroma is candy sugar, brett, toffee, caramel, wood. Medium mouth, caramel very sweet, light brett, really nice.

Poured up on tap at the 2015 edition of the AZ Strong Beer Festival where it exhibits a nice deep mahogany colored body that supports a thin tan head of foam. The aroma offers up thick malts, molasses, slivers of toffee and then prunes and figs and other inviting sweet smelling dark fruity esters. Wow. The taste begins smooth and sweet with thick malts and getting quickly into molasses and then flowing into prunes and dates and a little bit of cherries. Behind all of those delectable notes is a wafer thin tartness that has to be the Brett that is banging around in here. At the finish it pulls up a wonderful caramel sort of toffee note that just takes this to another level, oh my! This is a dynamite English Barleywine. I ended up getting back in line over and over and over again to get more and more of this wonderful brew. I think I was in line for this 7 or 8 times. YUM! This could easily be a 5.0 but I tend to have a very high threshold for handing out 10’s for aroma and/or flavor.
