750mL cork and cage shared by luttonm at a tasting. I needed to find out what the heck is happening with this beer. Brooklyn’s website says: "Additions: Sweet Orange Peel, Raw Demerara Sugar, Mauritius." So, maybe that helps explain the weird sweetness coming off this. The bigness and the bourbon don’t help. Its like a vanilla cream, not sure if sweet orange peel adds to that as well. Its not enjoyable because of the weird sweetness. Otherwise, its not the worst BA Impy Stout but definitely not for me.

From a shared bottle. Black. Thin palate, surprisingly thin actually. Light whiskey, some dry oak and vanilla, and the standard coffee and chocolate. Some citrus and orange also, there is a lot going on.

Luxury beer of limited production, tasted at the Horeca Expo Ghent. Moussy, light beige, creamy head, colour very dark ruby red, near black. Strong aroma of chocolate liqueur, congac, candied figs, vanilla, liquorice, Belgian chocolates, pipe tobacco, raisins, kahlua. Rich and delicious, thick and complex taste, sweet, candied fruits, vinous and thick mouthfeel, chocolatey with refined spiciness, woody accent, nutty, long and vinous, warming finish, malty with tannins and bourbon-like alcohol, roasted bitterishness and peppery hops. World class, if you ask me.
