Bottled. A pitch black beer with a dark brown head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, soy sauce, and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, roasted malt, soy sauce, and a bit of wood, leading to a dry roasted finish.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of Doodler. Pours an opaque pitch black with a small beige head. Roasty aroma with a distinct booziness. Solid body, very low carbonation, hard roast, tar and ashes, dark fruits with a woody edge. Malty bitter with a warming alcohol heat. Pleasant alright but the barrel adds surprisingly little character. 180911

Bottle at chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig ’11 and later at THE Eclipse tasting, 2012. It pours very dark brown with a medium light tan head. The nose is roasted malt, cocoa powder, caramel, toasted sesame seed, faint soy sauce, coffee, sweet vanilla and varnish. The taste is roasted malt, charcoal, charcoal, toasted sesame seed, salted liquorice, bitter chocolate, wood polish, medicinal aspect, nail varnish remover, toffee, tar and bourbon, with a warming, dry roasty finish. Full body, moderate carbonation and velvety mouth-feel. Pretty well balanced. Indulgent stuff.

Christian Bros bottle shared by Shane, thanks! Poured near black with a brown head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was full of roasted malts with a good amount of brandy and a combination of coffee and chocolate. Flavor was similar with roasted malts and a bit of dark chocolate and a nice brandy note.

sampled during the 2011 RBWG weekendsampled among all of the other eclipse variants. Pours black with a medium brown head. Aroma is sweet through and through. Brandy, oak, coffee and roast. Flavor is rich and meaty. Lots of roast, bitter cocoa, coffee. Finishes with nice light brandy notes. Not as sweet as I thought it would be and one of my favorites from the bunch, just not up there with the PVW version.
