German APA (incredible how quickly beer has evolved in the past years and decades) with five hop varieties, thanks SterV for sharing at Billie's in Antwerp, cheers sis! Membrane-lacing, egg-white, very thick and frothy head over hazy yolk-yellow, warm blonde beer. Intensely fragrant bouquet of lime flesh, orange blossom, mango juice, starfruit, guava, meringue, lemon rind, kumquat. Brightly fruity onset, guava and mango with a refreshing, drier, spritzy lime effect, lively but not unpleasantly stinging carbonation, supple and bit 'fluffy' body of bread pulp- and very slightly biscuity maltiness; soon a wave of aromatic New World hops fragrance fills the nose and mouth cavities, in a citrusy and tropical way, brimming with orange zest, kumquat, lime and mango. Ends juicy, with a soft peppery hop bitterness to it but maltiness prevails, as it ought to be in an APA. Nobody should act surprised when establishing that the German 'Gründlichkeit' would lead to technically solid examples of very un-German beer styles as soon as local brewers embrace them, but of course this kind of beers is still a huge rarity in Germany today and completely belongs to the young generation of American-inspired microbrewers. I often wonder what this will lead to in one or two generations time, especially in a relatively beer-protectionist country like Germany...
