The original Bornem abbey beer, originally (since 1957) brewed by Brouwerij Beirens in Wommelgem for the Sint-Bernardus abbey in Bornem, taken over by Van Steenberge in 1971 and formally recognized as an authentic abbey beer in 1999.

Almost opaque deep ruby brown colour, small frothy off-white head, mostly diminishing, thin layer remains with some yeast circles, light lacing. Aroma is roasted malts, dried dark fruits, overripe apple, apple treacle, caramel, light cocoa. Taste medium sweet and bitter, malty, fruity, toffee. Aftertaste mild sweetbitter, light apple sourish touch at the end, medium body, watery to oily texture, soft carbonation; all in all a nice Dubbel.

dark brown-mahogany colour, medium sized beige-ish head; aroma of dried fruits like raisin, figs and maybe some plum, as well, biscuit, hints of chocolate, some burnt nuts and alcohol; taste is the same though not as harmonic and intensive as the aroma; correct dubbel

From bottle at Ro & Go, Zagreb, with TO 07.10.15. Dark copper. Very persistent pale brown head and lacing. Aroma of sweet berries of the forest and medium dark malt. Similar taste. Fruity, with good drinkability. Fulfilling these customers’ expectations.

0.33 bottle shared with Goran and Vi?nja, thanks, Duron, Pero and Zvonko. Dark brown, coca-cola color, off white creamy head. Fruity, not very aromatic. Dry fruits, caramel, nuts, some coffee. Sweet with roasty notes. Lacks body. Ok.

Ambar oscura, miel. Apenas espuma, insignificante y jabonosa. Aroma acaramelado, ligero. En boca, malteada con regusto amargo como de almendra. Cuerpo flojo para una belga del estilo. Calor alcohólico. Defrauda.
