This sturdy beer is strong both in taste and alcohol content (9%), boasting undeniably appealing flavours. The people of Montignies-sur-Roc, which lies to the south of Mons in the province of Hainaut, are known locally as Montagnards. It seemed perfectly natural then for a beer brewed in the village to be named La Montagnarde. Enlivened by a very sharp bouquet of fruitiness and spiciness, it has a stark taste, somewhere between intense bitterness and dreamy caramel. Absolutely sugar-free, this pure malt beer plays with a variety of flavours that soften the bitterness. There is a pepperiness at the back of the mouth and a tingling on the tongue. Its qualities continue to develop in the mouth, each element of its flavour having the chance to express itself individually. It is very active in the glass too, giving it a generous, long-lasting head. Its long finish highlights the ever-present bitterness, with a little less of the caramel. The finale evokes a kind of sugar-free gingerbread.
In 2019 the new 1979 label was introduced to commemorate the 40th jubilee of the brewery.

750ml says Brasserie des Rocs Ambree; Best before 2008; Nose of yeast, brown sugar, caramel, orange zest, and light cloves; hazy copper-orange with a big straw head; flavor has light sweetness, slightly toasted caramel, cloves, and a little peppery spices, but no bitterness! Just a slightly sweet BSA. Maybe it would have been better fresher?

Bottle. Unclear medium amber / orange color with a averager, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is light malty, caramel, light to moderate hoppy, orange, moderate yeasty, fruit acidic, sulphur. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (281107)

Bottle at home ... bad bad sediment ... Rich sweet yeast nose little pear... Alcohol shows quite fruity again a little pear. Not bad just not great, I expect much more than this from a 9% beer... Disapointing as i really like the brune

Hazy red with medium head. Aroma has yeast and toffee. Fruity flavor, with raisin and orange. Yeasty and ends rather dry. Warming alcohol in the end.

Pours with a small but thick head that turns into a sticky lacing. Color is marmalade orange with spots, those spots are the infamous de Rocs floaties, but here it looks pretty nice. So still and thick looking, very murky but enough translucent light to make it radiate. Aroma is very original, first starts with strong tangerines that are kind of like sweet and sour, which is buttressed by a sweet Belgian yeastiness. It ends with a sweet floral perfume-ness. Taste is yeasty-citrus with medium sweetness. Again, rather original, very fruit/yeast beer with strong floral aspects. Talk about original, the mouthfeel is like drinking orange juice with pulp, never have I had something so... full of bits. A lighter side of medium body that’s pretty easy going down. Finishes with an abrupt sweetness that doesn’t overwhelm, so quaffable yet full of... well everything. Very different and enjoyable beer. Best before 2008, 750ml bottle, Hobgoblin tulip glass.

bottle shared by cmr1517 - Pours murky amber with a sizable head. There’s a lot of yeast in the nose along with malt and a touch of dark fruit. The flavor is sweet and yeasty. The slight fruit note is a little on the sour side. Medium bodied and lively on the palate, it was enjoyable but didn’t blow me away.

Hazy amber colour, small white head, leaving a nice lace. Aroma is fruity (oranges) and spicy with alcohol tones. Taste of citrus, coriander. Yeast is prominent. Nice mouthfeeling. Ends slightly bitter.

Bottle at Chris_O bottlefest 2007. Copper colour then a massive amount of floaters. Sweetish Belgian triple, tangerine. Just so difficult to drink. Syrupy sweet.

Nice amber coloured, pale beige creamy head. Sweet malty, very fruity (orange, plum, raisin) and mild spicy aroma with notes of toffee, dark chocolate and yeast. Mild alcoholic and dry finish.
