Wonderful beer. Pours black with good mocha head and lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, roast malt, some nut and some subtle bourbon notes. Looks syrupy but consistency feels more thick on the tongue than syrupy. Booze well-disguised. Finishes bittersweet. Tap at brewery.

Tap. Pours opaque black, huge tan creamy head, great lacing. Aroma is bourbon, roared malt, molasses. Flavor is the same, medium sweet, light bitter. Light body, high carbonation. Not surprisingly, if you age a bad beer in bourbon barrels, you get a bad, bourbony beer.

On tap at EBF 3/16/13. Earthy and roasty stout with a slightly ashy almost chalky consistency. Bourbon and oak come through as well as the yeasty Belgian phenols and flavors. I love stouts, I love bourbon, but I think the Belgian yeast detracts rather than enhances this brew.

Rustico, Ballston tap ($9): Pours black with a small creamy head. Aroma is very complex: vanilla, bourbon, light roast coffee, and a hefty hint of booze as it warms. Taste is pretty similar. The alcohol is noticeable, but the taste is actually not offensive to me in the least bit. For me this was a definitive sipper, but each sip was very nice and mellow. At no point did I feel that any taste is overpowering. The roast is kept in moderation. There is very little bitterness, but at the same time very mild sweetness.

Served on draft at Beer Run. Pours clear dark brown with a large creamy tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of honey, whisky and faint roast. The taste is whisky, bitter roasted notes, nuts, smoke. Medium bodied. Not very Belgian.
