Sample at M’kReam’s 40th Birthday Party on 08/01/2015. Dark mahogany-brown color with a medium light beige head that diminishes steadily. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of roast malt, dark fruit and yeast. Full-bodied and chewy with flavors of rum, caramel malt, ripe fruit and yeast. The finish is sweet with a rummy aftertaste. Decent overall.

750 ml bottle into chalice, bottled on 4/21/2015. Pours hazy very dark brown color with a 1 finger dense tan head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big raisin, plum, fig, pear, apple, light banana, pepper, clove, light caramel, candi sugar, toffee, toast, vanilla, bourbon, rum, oak, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, dark malt, and oak barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, fig, pear, apple, light banana, pepper, clove, light caramel, candi sugar, toffee, toast, vanilla, bourbon, rum, oak, and yeast/oak earthiness. Fair amount of yeast/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, fig, pear, apple, light banana, pepper, clove, candi sugar, toffee, toast, vanilla, bourbon, rum, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity and robustness of fruity/spicy yeast, dark malt, and oak barrel flavors; with a great malt/yeast/barrel balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, fairly crisp, and lightly slick mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an excellent barrel aged quadrupel style. All around excellent complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, dark malt, and oak barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the huge ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Sampled at Max’s Rare and Obscure Part 8. Cask pours a murky, deep brown with a ring of off white head. Nose is crazy, doesn’t smell like beer, lots of crayon, some acetone, nail polish, mild wood, tobacco. Flavor has lots of crayon, very astringent, herbal bitters, sumac, plastic. Full bodied, oily finish. Weird.

Keg at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Very dark brown, beige head. Caramelly nose. Very sweet with full body and clean mouthfeel. Caramel dominates, some marzipan and brown sugar. Warming finish with some bitterness. Simplistic.

Similar taste which rich caramel, malty taste and somewhat boozy finish. --- Beer merged from original tick of Quintaceratops on 20 Oct 2015 at 12:16 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 6. Original review text: Sample at SBWF. Brown pour with a thick tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel and rum. Malty flavor with caramel, vanilla, oak and rum leading to a sweet finish. So... I live in Brooklyn, yet I had this beer in Paris at La Fine Mousse, where they were charging a price that was certainly lower than any I would have found in New York. The crazy world that we live in. In any case, Pours black with a wee head. Aroma is funk, funky sugar. Taste is slightly sour with a dark malt backbone coming in powerfully while still being rather light. Alcohol is miraculously well covered up. Quite nice.

Tap. Friends of Ham, Leeds. Clear, dark chestnut brown. Film of tan head. Dark, fruity malts. Stewed apple. Some grassy hop. Raisins. Bonfire toffee. Taste is fruity, toffee sweet, turning fruity dry. A light bitterness. Smooth, full palate. Finishes fruity dry, with a gentle bitter close.

A little okay but not a super huge beer for a quad. Pours dark brown with hood head and lacing. Light bitter finish. Hint of florals and some citrus. Tap at Churchkey.
