Pre Prohibition Lager is Shaketown’s homage to a ‘what might have been’ lager in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. We used a combination of North American barley malt, flaked rice, and hops (both old and new varieties) to give an authenticity to this style and flavour of this beer. It is light bodied, unfiltered beer; a whisper of fruit and floral hops on the nose and a lingering herbal “woodsy” hop flavour that lingers through a clean, dry finish.

On tap at Shaketown. Pours clear blonde with a white head. Nose is grassy and slightly floral. Flavour is clean, dry grass, straw, some floral notes. Crisp and drinkable.

On tap at Shaketown, pours a hazy blonde with a small white head. Aroma is timid, with subdued grass and crisp biscuity malt. Flavour brings out a nice corn character, followed by gentle grassy hops, and biscuity malt. Corn character is nice but I'd want more hops for this to be truly worth drinking. It's alright.

Clear pale gold with a rich white head. Flowery light grains. Grains, light spicy hops and a touch of grain finish. Decent.

Okay medium clear gold body and some modest foam on top. Aroma is very weak grain, really just too weak. Taste is more weak grain and slight butter. Ends wet with soft carbonation. This one needs work, very little to like here. --- Beer merged from original tick of Pre Prohibition Lager on 17 Jun 2021 at 23:18 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 7. Original review text: Pours a very good foam and stormy light yellowy gold body. Smells of sweet corn, light, slight cereal notes and not too sweet. Taste is a rustic yeast profile like a Belgian ale, coriander notes it seems, orange peel and slight cereal with a sharp dry finish. Reminds me more of a Belgian blonde than a lager, but well made and nice to drink.

Poured from the tap. Clear gold with small white head. Clean pilsner malt, hopping is quite feint, needs a little more.
