[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading.] An opaque peaty brown pour with a loose beige head; aroma of roasted malts; smooth in the mouth with a dry toasted grain taste; and a well rounded bitterness to finish. A really good dry stout.

Cask at London & North Western, Birmingham. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small foamy tan head. There’s roast malts and oats in the aroma, plus some hints of coffee. In the mouth it starts off sweet and creamy but pretty soon some underlying bitterness can be detected. Roast malts again inthe flavour alongside cola and hints of chocolate. Some pepper comes through later as well, leading to a slightly spicy finish. This is a decent stout.

Cask at the Montagu Pyke - London. Pours clear, rich black-brown with a dense, lasting creamy beige topping. Light sweet flavour with soft chocolate notes, dark fruits, toast, nips of earth and ash. Light bodied with fine carbonation; decent condition. Pretty well balanced finish, cocoa, fruity notes. Sound.
