Kouko is a big, piney Barley Wine infused with rye, spruce tips and honey. Enjoy slightly cooled (10-12°C) and deep in thought, as this beer is a true “slow sipper”. Works well with game or casseroles. Musical inspiration behind this beer was the Hexvessel album “All Tree”.

Bottled (thanks Mats!). Deep amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is honey, some spices, mild alcohol, some ripe fruits a strange vermouth kind of thing. Flavour is honey, quite sweet, some alcohol, mild rye, some more alcohol and a kind of gambinaish/vermouth thing.

Smell of some malt, earth, sour apple. Muddy brown colour, beige head. Aroma of earth, caramel malt, some alcohol, yeast, banana, maybe mint. Sweet. Rather stuffy.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - batch 748 - BB 30.06.2021, from Alko, 20200313) The beer poured brown and lightly hazy. Its head was small and white. Aroma had malts, caramel, vanilla and banana. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, wood, vanilla, hops and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, woody and bitter. Unbalanced and too herbal.

Dark brown colour, tiny beige head. Toffee, alcohol, dried dark fruits, vanilla in the nose. Medium-bodied. Toffee, alcohol, rye bread, honey, herbal notes, hops in the flavour. Aftertaste has alcohol and herbs. Not very sweet. Okish. In the same level than non-barrel version.

A dark brown beer, a head is small and beige. Aroma has caramel, raisin, vanilla, dried fruits light wooden barrel. Taste has caramel, pine, vanilla, dried fruits, nicely dry, also nice bitterness in the end. Medium+ bodied. Succesfull barreling and great beer.
