Aroma is moderate to light light heavy malty, grain, hay, straw, dusty, corn. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Bottle, at Patricks Pub. It pours a clear, golden body with lots of carbonation from the logo in the bottom of the Duvel glass I had it in. A two-finger, white head sits on top looking nice and leaving lacings. The nose is quite grainy, for once in a nice way, with fruity, grassy and slightly citrusy hops and some faint notes of alcohol. It also suggest a dry beer to hit the palate. The flavor is grainy, still in a nice way, with a pleasant bitterness from the grassy hops. Slightly bready, but most of all dry. Medium body fullness. The finish lasts for a good while with grass, hay, a little bread and an appropriate bitterness. A very refreshing beer, more-ish and quenching. The way a good German beer should taste. 090917

500 ml bottle. Clear, golden body with a big white head. Aroma is grainy and fruity. Flavor is sweet malt, spicy and a light hoppy finish. Plain, balanced and OK

Clear golden with a medium white head. Sweet malty aroma with hints of caramel. Sweet malty flavour with caramel and hoppy notes. Mild bitter finish.

Bottle. Pale golden-straw color with an off-white head. Light malt, light grassy aroma. Malty, honey, light grass flavor. Medium bodied. Sweet honey malt lingers with some light mineral tones.

50 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden yelow with a diminished white head. Mild fruity and spiced hops aroma. Flavour is mild fruity and light spiced. Crisp and bitter. Nice fruity finish with a slowly increasing bitterness. Vague dry breadish malt flavour too.

A crystal clear straw color with crisp looking carbonation bubbles. A large head appears on top of the beer, but it disappears fairly quickly. Uneven specks of lacing appear on the side of the glass. 3.5/5.0.

Aroma: Malty indeed. A sweet grainy aroma is very assertive. Almost like sticking your nose into a box of cereal. Behind that are subtle grassy hop notes. 3.5/5.0

Taste: Very similar to the aroma. Sweet and grassy. There is still a strong grainy cereal note here, but the hops are more noticeable, taking hold of your tongue and growing in intensity as you drink more. The whole effect works pretty well. 3.7/5.0

Mouthfeel: The carbonation feels soft on the tongue, leading the slightly sticky medium body of the beer to take the forefront. The beer feels smooth overall, though I would like the carbonation to take a more active role. But, I am a carbonation nut, so take that for what it’s worth. 3.0/5.0

Drinkability: I spent three and a half hours earlier tonight nursing a 750 mL 11% abv barrel aged sour ale. Compared to that, anything is drinkable. At 5.6% abv, this is high for the style, but still very manageable for all but the most neophyteish. This one goes down really easy, but also brings with it some flavor. Really, it’s everything you could ask for from this style. 4.5/5.0.

Overall. One of the good things about German beer is that compared to a lot of other regions, it is affordable. Even after being shipped in glass across an ocean, this 500 mL bottle set me back $3.39 at Wine Warehouse. They have other good options, like Tucher and Ayinger, even less than that. Back to this one, a smooth, tasty, well balanced beer. Well done. 3.85/5.0.

Pours clear straw color with white head. Light fruity aroma. Flavors of light malt and fruit. Crisp grassy, malty flavors. Not much going on. Easy drinking, but kind of boring. Light to medium body with average carbonation.

Nice honey and lemon boquet with a light touch of hay. Shimmering gold color with a thick white head, great lacing. Flavor is honey and malt . Finish is grass.

Bottle. Aroma is not sweet. A light sour note. Some breadiness? Brassy golden color with a white head that just ringed. Medium or better in body. Very mild carbonation. The flavor seems primarily grassy hop. Not much sweetness. Some floral. The finish is a bit bland, as the bitter does not seem to build. Still, it feels well in the mouth, it’s refreshing, it’s nearly crisp, and it is a good drink. It’s growing on me.
