Yet another self-proclaimed brewery, in Hasselt this time, but the beer is produced in Ghent at BeerSelect like the beers of so many similar project. Sample at ZBF. Egg-white, moussy, slowly opening head lacing in shreds over a near-clear, pale amber-tinged ‘old golden’ beer – not really ‘true’ amber for me, but anyway. Aroma of lightly toasted peanuts, rusk, dry hay, bread crust, dried field flowers. Restrainedly sweetish onset, some dried apricot and apple peel but not too estery at all, rather clean, moderately carbonated with slick, bit oily mouthfeel. Rusk-, cracker- and unsalted peanut-like, pleasant maltiness, grassy hop bitterish touch with pinches of coriander and dried orange peel, ending malt-sweetish and softly bitter with this nutty aspect of the malts pleasantly lingering. Very clean, streamlined Belgian blonde with indeed obvious ‘pale ale’ or Belgian amber (spéciale belge) intentions, feels a bit old school but certainly well brewed. Considerably better than expected really.
