33cl bottle from Marlou Dranken Prik & Tik. Head is medium, tanned, average retention. Colour is black, opaque. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, cocoa, dark dried fruits, coffee. Taste is full malty base, chocolate, cocoa, dark dried fruits, coffee, berries, bit vinous, nice balanced bitterness, it should be more complex to be fully enjoyable.

Bottle at home. Opaque black color, medium sized tan to brown colored head. Aroma is malts, brown malts, don't get much more. Distant coffee maybe. Flavor is similar with a firm bitter finish. Lingering malt bitterness. Raw. Old school. Plain and simple. Good.

Donkerbruin tot zwart bier met stevige lichtbruine schuimkraag die lang blijft staan. Smaak is bitterzoet en krachtig warm met iets van bittere donkere chocolade, een beetje koffie, wat geroosterde noten en een vleugje zout.

New strong stout by this Antwerpian Foxtown project, sampled at Meug Tastingfestival. Yellowish-beige, moussy, slowly breaking head on a jet black beer. Aroma of roasted chicory, green (!) coffee beans somehow, hard caramel, bitter black chocolate, used coffee filters, charred toast, nutmeg, ‘oude jenever’, salmiak, burnt black olives, something like worn out rubber. Clean, sweetish onset, hints of treacle, candied fig and blackberry jam but nothing cloying, light umami note (black olive), medium carb; oily body, not very ‘thick’ though, in relation to style and strength. Caramelly, bitter-chocolatey maltiness, sweetish at first but gradually turning drier and more bitter, towards a roasted chicory-like bitterness with spicy side notes (clove, nutmeg) and a slightly ashy aspect; underlying toffeeish sweetness is maintained throughout, but relatively subtly so. Ends with leafy hop bitter notes and warming, ‘jenever’-like alcohol. Decent, nothing more: a tad too thinnish with some weird side flavours here and there. Needs finetuning and rethinking if it wants to be part of the greater ones of this style even within Belgium.

Sampled @ Zythos Beer Festival 2022. A clear very dark brown beer with a beige head. Aroma of red berries, red malt, caramel. Taste of dark roasted malt, caramel, toffee. Taste of sweet red fruits, red malt, caramel, boozy finish.
