Habitus, winner of the 2014 World Beer Cup in the Rye category, is a spicy, crisp, and extremely drinkable double IPA. We use loads of Sterling and Chinook hops in the kettle and hopback (and even more during the dry hop) for intense pine aromatics accentuated by a rye and 2-row malt base for a truly great IPA experience.

From tap at Taplokaal Gist, Utrecht. Aroma is sturdy rye malt with soft fruits, some citrus, grain, pine, a touch of caramel, and some spicy notes from the rye. Bittersweetish flavour, medium body. Nice Rye IPA, not very hoppy but the rye comes out nicely.

Can. Hazy orange colour with a small white head. Aroma is floral, some tropical fruits, resin, mild grapefruit as well as some sweet maltiness. Flavour is rather similar. Quite nice lingering bitterness and rather bodied brew.

Cloudy dark blond with lasting head. Aroma and flavour have a lot of rich sweet rye. Nice mix with the earthy hops.

The Aromas are pine resin floral and a bit of spice. Likewise the flavors bittersweet with some long-lasting bitterness. Good but I don't care for it as much as I did the last time I had it.

Double IPA from a craft brewery I never heard of, can at BeerTemple in Amsterdam, one of those new type cans which open over the entire top surface. Snow white, rather loose and quickly opening head over a hazy orange blonde beer with peachy hue. Aroma of tonic water, yellow grapefruit juice, dried wormwood leaves, dried juniper berries, gin, pond water, green olives, cold French fries, marijuana. Restrained sweetish onset, green banana with a dried citrus peel effect, fizzy carb, full and oily mouthfeel. Bread crust-like maltiness increasingly drenched in a long, spicy, rooty, grapefruity bitterness, almost like green bitter herbs (wormwood leaves) and green peppercorns; something weirdly sulfuric (rotten potato-like) turns up retronasally. Potent, unusual DIPA, different within the style and as such interesting, but bearing some weird, unpleasant off-flavours.
