A smooth, dark German lager that balances roasted malt flavour with moderate hop bitterness. Lighter in body and drier than the porter, notes of bitter chocolate last through the finish and lingers on the palate. Featuring a spicy hop bitterness with a complimentary yet subtle roastiness in the background, but lacking the harsh burnt or heavy aftertaste of bigger dark beers.

On tap at Britannia Ladner, pours a deep dark brown with a reddish tinge and a small tan head. Aroma brings out medium roast, some earthiness and a touch of coffee. Flavour is clean and well dialled in, with roasted malt, dry cocoa and a touch of coffee. Medium-bodied, dry and well-constructed overall. Pretty solid.

Nice blackish brown body and good creamy foam, though it settles too quickly. Smells of good coffee and sweet molasses, clean but a little soft. Taste is weak caramel and molasses, ends smooth and full more or less. It's drinkable, very straight ahead.
