Impale IPA delivers hoppy insurrection, through biting bitterness and big tropical fruit aromas derived from the combination of Cascade, Simcoe, Nelson Sauvin & Citra hops used.

Ed Young's recipe was originally winner of an IBD homebrew competition. Not only did he win the chance to brew it with us, he came to work for us for a number of years. Ed has now moved on but he beefed up the original recipe with an increased dry hop before he left.

Bottle: Deep golden, clear, small stable white foamy layer, distinctive bitter-sweet grapefruity-malty nose; very soft, medium bodied, moderate bitter-sweet flavour; again, lingering, grapefruity-hoppy finish. Nice stuff...

(bottle, 33cl) Clear, amber colour with a medium-sized and slightly off-white foamy head. Fruity and mildly piney hoppy aroma with notes of grapefruit and tangerines on a delicately bready malty background. Mildly bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a medium carbonation. Citrus-fruity and mildly cara-malty, delicately bready taste; sweet-bitter fruity hoppy and shy piney finish. An IPA for starters in the double sense. 20.XI.12

330ml bottle. Clear golden colour with average, foamy, minimally lacing, white head. Fruity aroma has notes of citrus, tangerine, biscuit undertones. Taste is citrusy, minimally sweet pale malty with a touch of honey, biscuit, tangerine, floral hop note in the finish; flat carbonation. Fresh, citrusy, neither overly bitter hoppy nor complex IPA - juicy.

33cl bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours blonde with a hint of a haze and a nice lacy head. The nose has lemon and oatmeal. The taste has more lemon and oatmeal. The palate is medium bodied with a creamy texture and a nicely balanced finished. Overall, this is not what I would call an IPA but it’s quite a good session blonde. It grows.

Bottle at home in London. Pours perfectly clear, yellow-gold with a fine, foamy white head. Ripe citrus nose, some marmalade, bit of straw. Medium sweet flavor with lightly doughy pale malts, jammy citrus, some sugar, mild bitterness. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Fairly sweet finish with mellow hops, lots of jammy citrus, light hay and doughy malts. It’s a very tasty APA.
