500ml bottle. Hazy, quasi black colour with small, creamy, fading, beige head. Sweet-ish, BA supported, sweet-ish, caramel malty and slightly dark malty aroma, notes of caramel, hints of treacle, some Bourbon, vanilla, Cognac, a touch of Marsala, plum wine, weak whiffs of marmite. Taste is initially sweet-ish, caramel malty and minimally chocolately, dark malty, with BA notes of Bourbon, some plum and Marsala, treacle; additional BA notes of Cognac and a minimally woody touch join in the middle part, slight decrease of sweetness, still well hidden alcohol; quite a change in the last third to oak, some booze, further loss of sweetness; becomes more homogeneous while warming up, especially a nice amalgamation of Bourbon and Cognac flavours, also a better integration of the woody aspects; weak marmite overtones throughout, relatively well hidden alcohol overall considering the 15% abv, unpreventable a minimally warming, alcoholic touch in the finish.
Viscous, almost syrupy texture, smooth and soft, slightly cloying palate, fine, slightly scattered, soft carbonation.
Eventually homogeneous and harmonious with pleasant, flattering, in no way tacky sweetness - very nice sipper.

9-4-8-4-16 Bottle, #0030, almost three years after bottling. Pours pitch black, with a creamy mocha head. Aroma is malty notes with rye bread, syrupy notes, tobacco, chocolate and sweet licorice, as well as bonfire, tannins and wooden barrels. Creamy body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is sweet malty notes of bread, chocolate, marzipan, and liquorice, as well as dried fruits, tannins and wooden barrels. Lingering Complex and easy (yup), and really nice.

Bottled (thanks Mandells). Deep brown, close to black, colour with a minor head. Aroma is toffee, syrup, vanilla, oak, liquorice, tobacco and some mild spiciness to it. Flavour is pretty much following the same pattern, but also has a bunch of alcohol to it. A bit overdose on the sweetness, liquorice and alcohol, otherwise it's kind of nice.

A slightly oily looking black brown beer, tidy tan head doesn't hang around too long. Nose is rich cognac, slightly perfumey and mildly estery. Palate is pretty light considering its carrying 15 of yer abvs! Light and smooth with decent fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, a touch of dark chocolate, quite subtle. Similarly subtle coffee. A stronger savoury vibe coming through, smooth Cognac Barrel interwines well with it. A little smokiness coming through on the back end and a mild fruitiness, very mild. Some alcohol spice on the end but really not that much heat. A rich and tasty beer, feels very grown up and fairly refined. My only beef is that it feels as much, or even more like, an Imperial Stout as it does a barleywine.

Sleeping village hidden tomes.

At VMfest 22. Quite dark for a barleywine, brown colored head. Aroma and flavor are malts, roast quite heavy, some liquor notes, liquorice, umami. Mwah. Not great this tbh. 7-7-6-7-6.

Very dark, and for some reason: very peaty. Rich, bit boozy but nowhere near 15%, lots of rich, meaty peatyness. Feels a bit off for the style description, but it works quite well with the barrels somehow. Little bit different.
