Bottled. Deep ambery brown colour with a mediumsized off-white head. Aroma is caramel malts, some mild raisins, mildly wooden notes as well as some slight alcohol. Flavour is caramel and bready malts along with raisins, mild stinging alcohol as well as some slight earthy notes. Quite pleasantly balanced Doppelbock.

Bottle: Clear, amber to deep amber coloured, small off-white foamy layer; toasty-caramelly and also nutty nose, completed by dried fruits; moderate to solid sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied, soft; sweet-bitter finish showing the same flavours like in the aroma. Pleasant stuff.....

(bottle, 7.7% abv) Clear, brown colour with a ruby shine and a big but collapsing beige frothy head. Sweet and moderately toasty malty aroma with notes of leather and almost a peaty/smokey touch. Sweet flavour, full bodied with a calm carbonation. Hearty and moderately toasty malt-character with notes of molasses and a subtle fruitiness; sweet and slightly toasty malty finish with light notes of herbal hops and alcohol shining through. Not my first choice on a day with more than 30° Celsius; also very close if not identical to the Schwarzer Baron by Autenrieder. 05.VII.10

The bottle looks really good, the beer in the glass also. Starts mild and malty, a bit dry, not very sweet. Well balanced finish, a bit prickly and scratchy. Good doppelbock!

Bottled, alc. 7.7% (BB 03/2007). Dark copper brown, not much head. Alcohol, caramel, woody hops in the nose. Toasted, slightly alcoholic. Palate is not so strong for doppelbock. Some caramel flavors. Malty, caramelly aftertaste.
