Bear State is a classic IPA brewed in the spirit of the West Coast of the USA. This is a massively hoppy beer, balanced perfectly with a touch of malt sweetness and an intensely citrus hop character to finish.

A golden beer, a head is blond and medium. Aroma has tropical mangos and grapefruits, hint of papaiyas, sensitive. If the aroma was even cautious, then a taste has more rough notes. Citrusfruits and strong pine needles, hint of tropical fruits, a bitterness is strong and dominating, the body is quite dry but it’s not only a role of assistant. The bitterness is piney with some resin in the end. Medium bodied, medium carbonation. Roughly hopped. Good and fresh IPA.

Bought bottled as Bear State from Good Spirits Co. Clear golden beer with a white, bubbly head. Light, zesty aroma which smells of lime in particular. Flavour is initially REALLY sweet but it soon settles and, oddly, almost immediately becomes quite dry and bitter, which is the flavour which lasts. It’s a touch unusual and pretty strong so it’d be a sipper rather than a guzzler but it’s quite nice.

Draft @ Tilquin English beer festival, 2015.

500ml bottle as Bear State. Pours gold with decent white head. A very drinkable West Coast pale with a restrained hoppy, floral citrus character. Not a lot else to say about it.

Sampled draft as “Bear State”@ Tilquin English Beer Festival 2015. Clear pale, creamy white. Bitter floral nose, bitter grass, herbal, light malts,… Taste is bitter grass, floral, herbal with some herbal caramel malts, pine resin hops,… Dry malt body. Bit too herbal, floral profile for me but nice still.
