The Meerts Tilquin series was made by fermenting fruit that had already been used once. Mirabelle was fermented for a period of 4 months in a blend of 80% 1 year old Meerts and 20% of a blend of different 2 year old lambics. Meerts (or March Beer) is a low strength lambic, which was originally produced with the weaker wort obtained from the rinsing of the grains. Unfiltered and unpasteurized, they are refermented in the bottle.

Poured from a 375 ml, 2020 / 2021 vintage bottle. Aroma is musty with herbal, earthy funk. Lighter stone fruit notes and hints of lemon. Light oak and grain notes. Hints of alcohol. Pours a slightly hazy, dull, straw color with a medium large, fairly thick, frothy, white head that recedes quickly to the edges where it lingers. Light lacing and faint legs. Flavor is somewhat acidic but not particularly sharp with light grain notes. Low bitterness and light alcohol notes. Light oak notes. Medium light plum notes with hints of lemon. Light earthy, herbal mustiness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, another fun meerts bottle. The plum notes come through in the flavor pretty well while the aroma is a bit more muted allowing the lambic notes to shine.

The palate is well carbonated and medium bodied. Highly tart with round ripe notes of peach, nectarine, and apricots. Light apricots on the finish.

Bottle from the 'Meerts' box from Hopduvel. Hazy yellow, thin, white head. Aroma of unripe plum, peach, apricot, gooseberry, starfruit, oak, vanilla, yoghurt. Taste has sour plum & gooseberry surrounded by lime & lemon acid notes over a sourdough-like, bit lactic undercurrent. Tart finish of stone fruit pit & skin, soft woody tannins and light funk hints. Medium body, moussy texture, average carbonation. Not the most complex Lambic experience, but very fruity and refreshing in its own way.

Pale, nice plum aroma. Not tart, but leathery. Has mellow plum throughout, and is quite enjoyable.

A taster shared with Josh, Matt, Phill, and Ryan during FHF with priceless Rachel's (yup, again!) help in organizing all the mess with glasses. Appearance: almost clear blonde. Aroma: funky with plums. Taste: same. Overall: good.
