Hanley & Stirk is first of a new line of whisky aged beers from the Creative Whisky Company. We’ve taken a barrel of Elsie Mo Pale Ale from the award winning Castle Rock Brewery and aged it for twelve weeks in a Pedro Ximenez Sherry Cask, previously used to condition a twelve year old Bowmore Whisky.

Found it in a drinks shop in Enschede, this whisky barrel aged light stout, and didn’t find it in the database, to my surprise. Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Pear drups and hints of licorice in the aroma. Malty sweet, roasty favor, with hints of peat, pear drups and licorice. Thinnish. Just a hint of oak in the aftertaste. lacks the depth of most oak aged stouts.

Dark brown to black colour, off-white head. Starts out with herbal aromas, soon replaced by cacao and chocolate, quite boozy. Some mandarins (tangerines) and what feels like an almost completely hidden hint of smoke. Sweet woody flavour, astringent, red wine, sour notes. Dry finish, dry sour, astringent wood, red wine, traces of whisky. Amusing, and nice as an experiment, but for me not something I’d drink a whole evening.

330ml bottle. Clear dark brown colour with small, frothy, collapsing, off-white head. Aroma has an intense oak note, but nothing else. Taste is dry, notes of oak, leather, a sourish dark malty touch in the background. Expired?

Bottle thanks to Dutchdrebus. Very dark brown color, small beige head. Aroma has something really weird in it. Don’t know what to think really. Weird. Taste malts, some oak, a light sourness. Medium body, thin texture, ok carbonation.

Bottle @ home. Muddy black with no real head. Smells slightly sour, red fruits, oak. Tastes red fruits like cherries, oak, woods, chocolate in the aftertaste. I can’t find the whisky though. Thin to medium body, soft carbo.
