Venezuelan cocoa beans and a Honduras blend of coffee (roasted by Kolonel Koffie in Antwerp) was added to this rich & smooth stoutebaas.

We almost called it 'Chocolate Massage...Aaaah'...oh well, late night decisions

Imperial coffee stout by one of Antwerp’s newest city breweries, located in a kind of outdoors mall at Oudaan (near the police station); from tap at Station 1280, which is right next to the brewery and apparently run by the same people. Moussy, medium thick, pale yellow-beige, thinning but stable, shred-lacing head, jet black robe. Aroma of coffee grounds, bitter black chocolate, toasted brown bread, cigar tobacco, salmiak, hint caramel, whisky, dried prunes, wet leather, dried wormwood, nutmeg, black olives. Sweetish onset though nowhere near as sweet as is all too often the case in this kind of beers nowadays, hints of raisins and dried figs, prune perhaps, medium carbonated with slight minerally effects; some slight umami (porcini) around the edge. Full but smooth, oily body, black-chocolatey, very toasty and toasted-walnutty malts with considerable roasted coffee-like bitterness in the end, accentuated by a pronounced peppery and leafy hop bitterness. Coffee grounds (in this case ‘real’ but of course also from the roasted grains), whisky-like alcohol, leathery and burnt-nutty impressions carry on for a long time in the finish. Very classically executed ‘U.S. style impy’, roasty and hoppy and none of that added dessert sweetness (apart from a dash of coffee) – this is more often than not what I am hoping for when I order an imperial stout. Very well done by Uncharted, again.
