Named for the river Tay - Scotland's longest riv er - Tayberries were first cultivated in 1979 when Dundee horticulturist, Derek I. Jennings crossed Scottish red raspberries and the American 'Aurora' blackberry. Our Tayberry mead is named for Beira, a one-eyed giantess from Scottish mythology. According to legend, Beira is the Queen of Winter and mother of all other gods and goddesses. She built Scotland's mountains, created Loch Ness, drank from the fountain of youth, and commands the weather.

Bottle shared with others. Pours a near clear dark red with no head whatsoever. Aroma has tart and slightly dry berry with a bit of honey supporting. Flavor has sweet berry with a slight earthiness and a bit of dry honey backing.

375 bottle. Pours a dark purple color. Aroma is strong with berries that I cant quite place. The taste matches the nose--vibrant mixed berries in the forefront with some tannin bitterness at the back end. The palate is full and sticky. Finishes long and glorious. Overall: Decent mead. Not my favorite from Schramm's, but still quite memorable.

Bottle at the brewery, 11/29/24. Lighter blood-red with violet notes. Clear. Rich, buttery, earthy nose with a hint of brightening mintiness in the very end. Softens and opens with breathing, to a deeper, richer, acid-dotted red raspberry. No alcohol noted. Intense aromatics. In the mouth it's more fruity than expected. Rich, enveloping and juicy with a gentle sweetness and ling, rich honey and fruit acidity intertwined. Lovely stuff, tasting neither quite like raspberry or blackberry.

honey, soap, deep berry character. Modestly sweet, but the flower character is fantastic. Very rounded. Smooth. Wonderful

Thanks Gregg for sharing! Solo cup showing dark blueberry.
The nose shows intense notes of sweet jammy blackberries.
The palate is medium bodied. Very high acidity, moderately sweet with notes of blackberries and bramble berries.

Bottle shared at Rich's. Picked up at BrewExport. It pours oily deep purple with no head. The aroma is sweet, intoxicating, juicy, tangy, hot jammy vibes candy, bramble, blueberry pancake, purple juice, and sugar. The taste is slick, sweet, tangy, sweet - sour, sugary, candy, tangy, purple drink, bramble, juicy, jammy, turbo vimto, oily, heavy in the mouth, tangy, touch of spice and minimal alcohol with a tangy finish. Fulsome body and moderate carbonation. Heavy and sweet, but fun stuff overall.

@ Tasting. Dark red, thick appearance, no head. Aroma is weird, herbal. Flavor is odd again, herbal, plant like. Bleh. Don't like this one. Really not my thing.

Flaska från Bier Bazaar, b1. Mörk, intensiv rödlila i färgen. Stort och maffigt med massor av taybär/boysen. Lagom syltigt, fylligt, vinöst. Trots sin storlek förvånansvärt lättdrucket. Mycket gott.

Floral stronk nose, Hawaiian punch potpourri or watermelon jolly rancher, grape lemonade jamminess.
