At only 3.5%, Iron Age has an outstanding depth to it. Ruby red in colour, it is packed with aromatic fruity hop characteristics (the initial hop bitterness is balanced with a smooth malty caramel body and a complexion of rich fruity aromas with hints of berry fruit). Available in a 330ml bottle or a larger 500ml to share, Iron Age is great partner to hearty food dishes. Anyone for seconds?

Cask @Tree Folk’s (Rome). Pours amber with a medium creamy white head. Aroma is malty, biscuits, nuts, light roasted notes, apple, grassy hops. Flavour is delicate like a traditional english bitter, medium malty with a little bitter end. Light body, soft carbonation. Nice one.

Bottle at home, 25/06/16. Bought at M&S. Attractive aroma - sweet caramel with a floral hint - on further appraisal I can pick up more of the hops. Dark toffee in appearance and hazy. An off white head which has staying power to it. Medium bodied and smooth - the hops come through for a bitte taste that surprised me due the sweet aroma. More interesting than your average bitter.

50cl bottle from Beer52.com. A dull amber pour with a tight cream head; malty aroma with a woody note; clean grassy bitterness to start with a touch of citrus; and a lingering bitterness to end. A straightforward bitter.

Bottle from M&S Stratford and drunk at home. Clear amber brown colour lasting beige head. Some hop on the aroma, some malt, a touch of earthy hop. Decent enough drinkable session brown bitter. Man I’ve missed drinking these beers. Decent dryness on the finish.

*Bottle from Hemköp in Stockholm. Nice Bitter-typical beginning. Not too much depth but a round and refreshing beer. Could be a bit dryer, but round and refreshing aroma with nice hops and a nice malty Bitter-Ale-typical ending. Refreshing.

50cl bottle from Coop Konsum, Sälen. Pours clear deep amber to copper coloured with an off-white head. Malty and rather hoppy aroma with pine, caramel, dark berries and some earthy notes. Moderate to medium sweet and quite flavourful taking the low alcohol content into concideration. Quite pleasant with a nice bitterness too. Certainly a fairly decent brew.

Fourth beer of a random tasting evening I held with myself on 5th Dec 2014. 500ml bottle: BBD 10 days away when poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard. Nice looking brew, clear chestnut reddy brown with a full beige topping. Fruity and also semi-malty nose, with a flavouring on the same lines. Hedgerow berries and some sweetness from the malts, the beer grows on you as it warms and settles in the glass. Feels stronger than 3.5% ABV and is full bodied, especially for such a relatively weak alcohol beer. Really impressed with the beer, flavoursome and interesting.
