BA Blended Golden Sour with Scottish Blackcurrants
Brewed in collaboration with our friends at Fierce Beer, we produced this mixed culture blackcurrant sour from a blend of our beers. We used 50% golden sour beer aged in tank for six months brewed at Holy Goat, along with 50% rye sour aged in barrels for over two years brewed at Fierce Beer. We then refermented this blended base beer with 240g/l of freshly harvested blackcurrants grown within 40 miles of the brewery, followed by dry-hopping with Bramling Cross.
This blend represents the final barrel stock from Fierce Beers – Fierce by Nature barrel project, which we took over one year ago and which helped us kickstart our own barrel aging programme.

375 ml bottle. Pours a dark garnet red with short pink head. Aromas of funk, earthy blackcurrants and wheat. Flavors of tart currants, raspberries, citrus and wheaty malts. Very good.

0.375 l bottle from 'Beerdome', best before October 2032. A little hazy, dark ruby with a thin, slightly fluffy, slowly diminishing, pink head. Slightly sweetish, sourish, rather fruity, slightly funky aroma of lots of lemon, blackcurrant, gooseberry, some barnyard and traces of oak. Slightly sweet, fairly sour, rather fruity and a bit funky taste of massive lemon, gooseberry, oak, blackcurrant, some barnyard and light vinegar, followed by a medium, fairly tart, slightly dry finish. Medium body, fairly astringent and gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice flavours, don't dig the soft vinegar notes though.

Tap @ Bar Flag, Oslo. Purple with a pink head. Aroma is sweet, malty, black currant, tart and wood. Flavor is medium sweet and rather acidic. Dry and rather acidic finish. Great stuff. 150223

Bottle at home. Pours deep ruby, nose is huge funk, blackcurrant, oak, taste is tart blackcurrant, zesty, funk.

Bottle at NYE weekend. Deep slight cloudy purple colour with a pale pinkish head. Aroma and taste are tart blackcurrant. Tart to sour taste. Smoothie body.

Dyp rød farge med mørk rosa skum. Lukter og smaker mye av solbær. Syrlig i smak/munnfølelse. Solbær som skrevet men også noe vanilje og sitrus. En fin kveld på Brewgata i brugata. Mye godt både tap og en god del skatter også på boks/flaske.

Mørk rød tåkete med rosa skum. Lukter solbær og bringebær. Middels fylde. Fruktig og sur. Smaker solbær, bringebær og noe laktose.

Nicely sour, bit of a pucker but in a good way. Clear currants add flavour, but don't temper the acidity. Definitely some wood too. Very tasty, maybe a tad less bright than the others.
