Collaboration with e5 Bakehouse.
A take on traditional eastern European Kvass- a low alcohol cereal based sour drink.
A mash of rye, spelt and einkorn bread from e5 Bakehouse and the Kernel Brewery's saison then fermented with sourdough starter and saison yeast.

1/3 pint, draught, shared with BeerViking and Finn at Kernel Brewery Taproom. Naked at the surface, cloudy golden body, scattered lacing. Dry and tart hop fruity aromas. Balanced flavours of doughy malts and lemony hops. Mid-dry hop fruity ending, clean on the swallow. Rather short. Thirst quencher qualities. (Bermondsey, London 12.02.2023).

Tap at arch 7 @ light hazed burnt orange coloured pour with a fading fine white head. Aroma is nice fresh sour, sourdough, crab apple, musty bread. Flavour is super sharp, green apple, picjle, lemon rind, very unique . Palate is sharp prickly, highsih carbonation. Little abrasive. Not what I was expecting.

My first kvass! Light sourness followed up by a rye bread finish. Quite surprising! Little bit of sweetness there somehow. Tartness is lightly fruity but I can’t put my finger on what it is. I like it!

Bottle direct from the brewery via the web and also the postal service. It pours hazy orange with a quickly dissipating white head. The aroma is sour, tangy, lactic, soughdough bread, digestive biscuit, twist of lemon/orangey citrus and some wood. The taste is crispy, dry, fairly sharp and snappy, tart, tangy, lactic, lemony citrus, citron, sherbet, sourdough bread, biscuit, rivita cracker and touch of acidity with a drying finish. Light body and fine, prickly carbonation. Not exactly what I was expecting. Pretty pleasant sour beer.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from E5. Pours unclear, golden-orange with a fizzy white head. Lightly sweet with mellow acidity, lemony bite. Light bodied with spritzy carbonation. Tart and citric on the finish, relaxed acidity, more lemon, low sweetness, a little zest. Mighty drinkable.

Pigs Ear. Bottle. Big thanks to Leighton. Hazy orange gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and pretty dry. Decent fine carbonation. Sourish citrus hop fruits over a very light malt base. Not getting huge amounts of Kvass character here. More of sourish session IPA. Drinkable. Interesting branch off from Kernel but I can think of many other places I would rather they went.
