Bottle from Mr Lawrence, Brockley. Shared with Slothez pre Fall gig. Dense dark brown pour with a restrained tan head. Lovely nose of piney hop, dark choc, caramel malt and fruits. The flavour carried on in a similar fashion with the roast and hop profile providing a winning combo. Quality throughout with the ABV skilfully smothered. This delivered for the taste buds in spades....

Boreft Beer Festival 2011: Muddy brown with a lasting off-white head. Aroma of caramel, grassy and fruity hops (kiwi) and yeast. Sweetish caramel and green hop flavour with an unleasant bitter aftertaste

Bottle at home in London. Pours dark brown with a sturdy, creamy beige cap. Aroma has definite notes of pine and chocolate, some subtle roast. Flavor is very sweet, much sweeter, in fact, than I had anticipated. Nice roasted malts character, some chocolate and caramel, juicy citrus hops, pine. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warm, sweet finish with some sticky resins. More cocoa, moderate roast, light treacle, dark sugar, sweet bread, light earth. Not as dry as other Kernel IPAs, which is a nice change-up. Excellent beer overall.

33cl bottle @Pikkulintu. BBE 08/2014. Poured quite ugly murky brown with a thin head. Fruity, very hoppy aroma. Caramel and bitter hops as well as roasted malt in flavor. Bitter finish. Decent Black IPA.

Bottled 330ml (Pikkulintu, BB 08/2014)
Murky brown color, steady beige head. Toasted chocolate, roasted malts, fruity hops in the nose. Medium to full-bodied. Licorice, alcohol, tobacco, toasted malts, fruity hoppyness. Quite tough alcohol in the aftertaste. Overall anyhow very balanced.

(Bottle, 0.33 l, at Pikkulintu, 20111203) The beer poured almost black and cloudy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had hops and hint of roasted malts. Palate was medium bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were hops, roasted malts, liquorice and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy and bitter. A good black IPA where roastedness was in the background.

330ml bottle @ Pikkulintu, Helsinki (as The Kernel India Pale Ale Black 9,8%)
Pours black with a massive foamy head. Aroma is fruity and slightly roasty with hints of licorice, salmiakki and ash. Taste is quite nice with fruity and roasty notes. Finish is quite smooth and fruity. Well balanced, tasty black IPA.

Hoppy aroma with resin, some roastiness and vanilla. Typical flavour to black ipa with exotic fruits from hops and roasted malt. Also some hints of strawberries and vanilla. Nice!

Draught @ Borefts Bier Festival 2011, Brouwerij de Molen, Bodegraven, Netherlands.Unclear - hazy matt medium to dark brown colour with a large, creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, chocolate, moderate to heavy hoppy, grass, citrus, pine. Flavour is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, dry, chocolate, loads of hops - lovely. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20110924]
