Deadlift Imperial IPA is unlike any Imperial IPA you’ve ever lifted from the beer aisle. It has the strong hop flavor you’d expect from an Imperial IPA but no heaviness that could weigh down your desire to take another sip. The unique flavor stems in part from Nelson Sauvin hops imported from New Zealand. Deadlift’s other component, a simple but fully braced malt backbone muscles up enough malty sweetness and caramel character to spot the incredibly robust hop flavor and aroma.

Deadlift Imperial IPA uses Nelson Sauvin hops from New Zealand’s best hop growing region: South Island’s Nelson. This region produces some of the most flavorful hops found anywhere. These hops have an intense citrus, fruity, berry-like aroma and flavor that makes them unique. The result will surely be a welcome workout for your taste buds.

Bottle, 12oz. As Nelson Imperial IPA. It pours a clear, dark golden body and a finger-thick off-white head. Hoppy aroma with a tad too much maltyness I think. Caramel sweetness. Pine cones, resins and grapefruit. Both stinging from the bitterness and warming from the alcohol on the palate, with caramel notes, malty sweetness and fruityness in the flavor. Full body, nice carbonation. Bitter and fruity finish. Not the most impressive DIPA I’ve had, but nice anyway. 130222

From a 12 oz bottle at home. Pours a cloudy cider gold with an off white head which quickly receded. Floral hop aroma. Sweet malt balancing out some mild citrus hops. Bitter finish. Very nice and session able DIPA.

Bottle from QFC - Seattle (Ballard), as Nelson Imperial IPA
Hazy light amber color, with medium sized head. The aroma is not too strong but nice, with fresh tropical fruits, plenty, and pungent passion fruit; later, some puke. Round body; sweetish caramel flavor with toffee; light residual sweetness overall; good hopping, with a good mix of tropical fruits and citrus.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Shop Rite, 8/2/12, as Widmer Brothers Nelson Imperial IPA

Aroma: The nose has a nice resiny hop bite, some sweet malts, bread, and some floral notes
Appearance: It pours a slightly unclear copper-orange, with a beige head and mid-heavy, spotty lace
Flavor: In the flavor, it is mostly the resiny and floral hops, with a clear secondary sweet malt backbone
Palate: It's medium bodied, with resiny stickiness on the mouth, soft carbonation, and a lengthy, dry finish
Overall Impression: Happy IPA Day to all! This one exceeded my expectations. I found it to be quite good, with an enjoyable hop presence and a noticeable malt backbone present for the right amount of balance. A very nice IIPA, I wouldn't call it quite up to the level of world class for this style, but it hits all of the wanted marks for me.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy yellow-gold color with a medium sized creamy yellow-white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was bitter, sour caramel, pine, resin and honey. The flavor was sweet and tangy pine, resin, lemon, caramel and bread. The finish was long, sour, caramel and resin. Moderately full bodied and the alcohol was well hidden. Nice.

Bottle. Pours a nice bright orange with a foamy head that is small and dies quickly. A lush nose of pear, apple juice, caramel and light brown sugar greets me and gives off just a whiff of resin. Flavor is interesting as well, definitely one of the better beers I have had from Widmer. Resin and butterscotch/caramel start things off, but there is a nice fruity edge to it as it moves across the palate. The best I can describe it is \"pear-like,\" but it’s more complex than that. The resin flavors come and go as it slides across the tongue, but fade in the finish which is malty and sweet with a little bit of that apple/pear fruitiness. Pretty decent beer!

as Nelson Imperial IPA. Hazy light amber. Thin head. there are some chewy malts, and some mellow sauvin notes. Very chewy character, with bright vinous notes and only a moderate notes. This hop doesn’t seem suited for Imperial IPA.
