We can recognize the Innis & Gunn signature all over this beer: caramel and toffee...only. And that’s the problem with this brewery; same old candy beer all the time. Olfactif: Crème brulée dominante, toffee et vanille. Olfactif très agréable mais unidimensionnel. Peut-être une légère touche herbacée à la fin. Visuel: Cuivrée, claire, avec une mousse forcée qui fui rapidement. Gustatif: Le caramel (toffee, crème brulée) est toujours dominant, mais il laisse se développer quelques notes de rhum brun avec un léger boisé; le tout accompagné d’une chaleur enveloppante. On reconnait toujours la même signature sucrée et caramélisée de cette brasserie. En bouche, c’est liquoreux, mais unidimensionnel. Toujours la même bière bonbon.

33cl bottle from Aldi, Bracknell. ABV 7.4% A bright golden amber colour with a rapidlly dissipating head and lots of carbonation; rather subdued aroma - some vanilla wood but little else; the taste is a good balance of rum, light spice and vanilla from the wood; the finish has a lingering toasty sweetness. Rather pleasant and well-balanced.

Bottle at home, Pours amber, bit more interesting than the usual far, sweet toffee and spicy rum.

AROMA: semi-sweet caramelized aromas, with some roasted notes and aged rum. no hop aromas and very faint esters. some spiciness. APPEARANCE: dark amber / Brown and translucid. thin slight ivory head with low retention. TASTE: hints of aged rum as some roasted notes and sweet caramelized malt. medium-low bitterness with a semi-dry finish. PALATE: medium-low body with low carbonation. OVERALL: an interesting barrel aged scotch ale but nothing more.

Bottle from Aldi; clear burnished amber pour with thin thin head, toffee aroma, taste has a hint of spice and vanilla, mostly caramel and malts with some fruit action.

Flaske 0,33l Vinmonopolet, bestillingsutvalget. Drukket på RV124 4 Feb 14. Gyldenbrun. Middels høyt luftig skum som varer en stund. Forsiktig aroma av rom. Smaken er uttynnet rom. Hint av pepper. Kunstig helhetsinntrykk.

330 ml bottle. A clear, deep golden body with an off-white head. Aroma has vanilla and some butterscotch, but the level of butterscotch feels pretty OK in this one. Flavor is sweet malt, caramel, wood, vanilla, hint of spices and not much bitterness. Medium body and decent aftertaste. Not bad, a bit too sweet, almost a bit dessert like and would probably work as an after meal drink.

0.33l clear bottle wrapped in a paper box. Have to admit that it's some time since I've had a Innis & Gunn beer now, but it looks like it should. Whisky colored and crystal clear in the glass with a small quickly islandy off-white top. I like the sweet caramelly nose with peppery and spicy tones. A little bit of butter and butterscotch also wrapped in between here. Surprisingly smooth in the mouth with a light oily almost creamy mouthfeel wrapped in a average small bubbly carbonation level. It has that well known sweetness that all their beer has, in addition to this a peppery spicy and woody flavor. I'm actually liking what I'm tasting. Not cloying at all and there is a well balanced little hint of alcohol all the way that makes it a bit more interesting. I'm no big rum drinker, but I think I'm tasting the rum as well and it has a vanilla theme all the way through. Not bad at all. 11.07.2013

Bottle. A copper colored beer, clear, with a dense light beige head. Vanilla, wood and brown sugar in the aroma. Caramel, tending towards butterscotch, Bread and toffee, with a little sweetness. Full body and a nice carbonation. Caramel and bread in the end. Decent, but too boring. 131129
