Bottle from bierkompass.de. Golden color, hazy. Peach and a touch of smoke in the aroma. Canned peach and some smoky notes in the tart flavor. Grapefruit. Infection? Probably yes, intented or not. But I still like the beer.

Bottle - Nice smoke and sour grains. Cloudy yellow orange with a frothy light white head. Light sour, very refreshing and the smoke is big in the finish. Weird but really good.

* * Old rating, best before 06.12. Malzig-rauchiges Bier. Leicht säuerlich frisch, mild-weich, sehr süffig mit rauchig-säuerlichem Nachgeschmack. Lecker!

One of the very few Lichtenhainers that came back into existence thanks to a few venturous German micro brewing companies. Loosely structured, creamy white head, colour a cloudy, ’dirty’ golden blonde; peculiar bouquet of smoked malt, sweat, sourish wheat, sour cream, apple peel, meat broth; taste begins freshly fruity with a clear sour stroke, refreshing, green apple and unsweetened yoghurt spring to mind, wheat is omnipresent (as in a witbier or a Weizen - to which this style is apparently related), towards the finish more ’beefy’ and meaty, and above all more smoky, fading into a dry, light sourishness. Very interesting but I’ve had a few more Lichtenhainers meanwhile and so far this is not my style.

Tap at Beermongers, PDX, having exhausted new US rates - 26/05/13. Hazed orange amber with a medium off white head. Nose is light smoke, wheat, burnt toffee, citrus, vanilla. Taste comprises soured fruit, apricot, vanilla essence, wheat, sugar, caramel, straw, spice, light banana. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light puckerings in the finale but subtle in this respect. Very good drop.
