Hop Henge Experimental IPA is our annual exercise in IBU escalation. An outrageous amount of Centennial and Cascade hops are added to each barrel, with a heavy dry-hop presence as well. It is dense and muscular, with a blend of crystal, pale and carastan malts creating an overall biscuity characteristic. It’s all hop, no apologies.

Bottle. Pours gold amber with a light head that dissipates quickly with minimal lacing. Strong hops aroma with citrus and pine/resin notes prominent. Some caramel malt backing. Flavor is hops from start to finish, with an extremely bitter finish. Citrus and resin notes dominate the weak backing of malt. This is a little over the top for my personal taste.

May 2010: My second beer in Mia’s Lounge, Flagstaff and yet another hoppy US brew. Deep amber body, a slight haze within, cream coloured head, thin from the start, a collar very quickly. Citrus hop aroma, some malted biscuits hidden at the back, but mostly hops with added hops. The hops impart a true bitterness that the malted biscuits (from the small) can’t cope with and the beer just becomes ’yet another hoppy beer’, one of too many I came across during my road trip to the US. The alcohol comes through towards the end of the taste, but otherwise it could have been almost any IPA based beer I came apon.

650ml bottle. Pours a nice clear orange/copper with lazy bubbles and little head. Big citrusy hop attack on the nose, Caramel, hops, and oranges to taste. Hopping is not overboard (relatively!). A great beer

From the 2/2012 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright caramel-amber color with a small white head that faded quickly. The aroma was sweet pine, resin and grapefruit. The flavor was tart, tangy and somewhat bitter with notes of pine, pineapple and lemon and undertones of floral and perfumey hops. The hop presence was complex. The finish was long with mixed hops and turned a bit sour. Fairly full bodied. Interesting.

Pour is a clear amber with a large whtie head. Aroma is aromatic hops with a hint of peach. Flavor is again hop aggressive with a mellow malt in the backround. Finish has a sweet bittnerness. This was a dandy of an IIPA.

Intensiver Hopfenantrunk, der sich im Mittelteil steigert. Sehr aromatischer Hopfenanteil, inklusive Hefearomen. Es gesellt sich eine Bananenote hinzu, die sich auf gleicher Höhe mit der Herbe befindet. Aromatisch ist auch der Abgang, in dem der Hopfen grasig-fruchtige Noten vorlegt. Ein aromatisches und starkes, dennoch weiches IPA! 11/12/12/13/13/12

Surprisingly sweet for an IPA. Pours a hazy, golden yellow with a decent-sized head. Hop aromas very prevalent. Flavor includes some citrus, some pine, some hop bite, with a sweet finish that is a bit unexpected.
