A powerful original from Stiegl, rich in content and multi-faceted. Velvety on the palate, full-bodied with a warming, long-lasting finish. Months of cold maturation make this specialty beer a truly authentic pleasure.

From old tasting notes. Previously called Stiegl Columbus Golden Bock. Deep brassygold color with a big foamy whitish, yellow head. Sweet toasted malt nose. Toasted malt flavor upfront with an underlying sweetness. Mildly bitter hops in middle. Bitter hop finish. Good balance and full bodied. Very flavorful.

2008 vintage, which I did not see on the bottle until i opened it. Green bottle with a twist off cap. It is showing its age with low carbonation and moderate oxidation. Nontheless, Good caramel flavor, leather, malt that is sweet and old hops. With age this is a lot like an aged English ale. I won’t blame Stiegl for the age, but I will blame them for the green bottle. I would be happy to give it another try. I enjoyed sipping on it as it is, but I am sure it would be vastly different when fresh.

Draught at Centimeter II, Vienna.
Dark golden, clear body, with a medium, creamy, white head, that dissipates quickly.
Quite light aroma of grains, honey, herbs.
Tastes of honey, bread, grains, grass, herbs, citrus, alcohol.
Medium, creamy mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes bitter-sweet, a bit dry, with citrus, herbs and grass.

Nice! A good example of this style, that isn’t special, but quaffable and with a nice creaminess. The sweet honey and bready malts and the subtle citrus notes are enjoyable and in a good balance.
