A powerful original from Stiegl, rich in content and multi-faceted. Velvety on the palate, full-bodied with a warming, long-lasting finish. Months of cold maturation make this specialty beer a truly authentic pleasure.

Label says Original Stieglbock 2013. Clear medium amber colour, small off-white foamy head, recedes quickly. Sweet malty nose, caramel, bread, brown sugar, hay, floral hops. Medium sweet, slightly bitter;, full body, oily texture, average carbonation; sweetbitter finish, light spicy notes. Retasted 141119: as Original Stieglbock 2014. Find the taste this time medium sweet and bitter, finish is bittersweet with roasted malts and hop presence in the aftertaste. So the palate has more character that’s why I rate this brew slightly better.

Bottle shared @ weekly tasting. Clear dark golden color, virtually no head. Smell and taste malts, grainy, a touch of apple juice and leaves. A bit weird combination, but it’s decent enough. Doesn’t really taste like most heller bocks I’ve had though.

33cl Bottle from Mitra A’dam Noord. Clear deep copper colour, white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, alcohol, typical strong lager/Heller Bock, hay. Flavour is medium-sweet, malty, light fruity, alcohol, candy, light-bitter finish. Light-bodied. It’s OK, but not very exciting.

Bottle: Pours hazy, light amber-brown with a sparse, off-white head. Sweet, bready aroma. Taste is watery barley, sweet....followed by a harsh, grainy bitter. malty... Not pleasant.

Bottled, BB 18.03.14, large sample. Clear deep golden color, short frothy off-white head. Aroma of grainy malt, slight sulphury, hay, hint of grassy and spicy hop. Bit bitter, quite sweet, slight sharp alcohol. Quite typical german/austrian stuff actually, but lacks quality.
