Belgian-Style Saison Ale

Our Spring Saison is light blonde in color with a fresh hoppiness and a wild and rustic Brettanomyces character. Lighter in color and alcohol than our Saison Rue, yet equally complex in its own way. Perfect for warmer weather and Spring celebrations.

Admin Note: Bruery has started to brew this beer again under the Bruery Terreux label.

Happy Easter~! Not too many Easter beers out there but I tracked one down: The Bruery Saison de Lente 6.5% A soft cloudy gold with a big soapy white head of foam. An aroma of orange blossoms, honey, soft spiciness and the lightest of funk. The taste is fruits, spice, earthy, honey, a metallic bitter brett quality & a dry finish. Quite an interesting easy drinking saison with a soft round mouthfeel.

Bottle says 12/18/13, unsure if that is born on or best by, nonetheless this is good stuff!
This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a nice hazy golden yellow to dim orange color with a two finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a good thirty seconds. There was barely any lacing anywhere on the glass.
The smell had a nice sweet refreshing lemon, slightly grassy and leading into a slight dry earthy citrus.
The taste was sweet and dry, a nice bitterness invades finely upon the surface of my tongue. There’s a nice bittersweet hoppy grapefruit aftertaste leading into a nice dry finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was good for the saison style and for me.
Overall, I like this one alot and would definitely have again.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 12/19/2013. Pours slightly hazy bright golden color with a 2-3 finger dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense foamy lacing clings around the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, white grape, peach, pineapple, pepper, cracker, bread, hay, straw, grass, musty funk, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, pale malt, and earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, peach, pineapple, white grape, pepper, cracker, bread, hay, straw, grass, musty funk, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, pear, apple, peach, pineapple, white grape, pepper, cracker, bread, hay, straw, grass, musty funk, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, pale malt, and earthy hop flavors; with a great crisp malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent saison style. All around great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, pale malt, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

The yeast and spice flavor work nicely here. It is a little sweeter than average in this style. This is a tasty, well-made Saision.

Bottle from Sugaya. Lemony, grapefruit nose, nice bretty funk is restrained, some yogurt there too. Bright gold, almost pastel, cloudy, with a fine head. More brett in the flavor, a bit earthy, grassy, leather and dust, and more lactic notes. Grapefruit zest still going. Crisp, high carbonation, somewhat bitter finish. Nice stuff. A but dirtier flavor than I hoped after the nose, but still good.

750 mL bottle from 2011. This has been a bit of a cellar cleaning weekend. Aroma is full of Brett pineapple and tropical fruit notes with fainter cherry pie filling. Medium, spicy phenolic notes with some herbal undertones. Light pear and red apple character and a hint of honey. Pours a cloudy, golden orange with a big, fluffy, white head of moderate thickness that displays a decent retention as it recedes to the edges. Light lacing and faint legs. Flavor has a lot more fruit character than the aroma with a moderate pear and red apple note followed by some overripe stone fruit. Moderate Brett character in the aroma with tropical fruit and a more phenolic, herbal and earthy note than in the aroma. Light phenolic spice and moderate bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with high carbonation; it did not gush, but the foam did creep up the neck of the bottle a bit. Low, but present astringency and low alcohol warmth Overall, a really nice saison but its just a little rough around the edges. If the flavor matched more closely with the aroma I think this could be amazing, but the fruit notes in the flavor were not quite working with the phenolics.
